Emoticons?

Bjørn T Johansen
I have a strange thing. I run the same Linux system at home and at work, both running Arch.
The "problem" is that at home, when I write :), the emoticon that appears is the same as :D but at work, it displays the correct emoticon, corresponding to :)

What is the difference between those two computers?

Regards,

BTJ

        Hi,
possibly icon theme? I know they should be the same, but...

How do the icons look like in the Insert->Emoticon-> submenu, or when
you click the emoticon button on the toolbar?

You can also check the content of the sent message, whether a proper
file name had been attached to the message and whether the text/plain
part shows a correct smiley.

Yes, the icons under Insert -> Emoticon are different. The top most icon that should be :), show :) on one installation and :D in the other.
And the sent message show the "expected" smiley, :D one place and :) the other place..

Where can I check which icon theme is used bt Evolution? Does it use the same as my Openbox system or does it use something else?

        Hi,
as long as the menu/tool bar button show different icons everything is
fine from the theme side.

I tried to reproduce this with Evolution 3.22.4, but no luck, both
icons are different in the sent message. The message source shows two
image attachments, one is face-smile-big.png and the other
face-smile.png. As expected.

What is your evolution version, please? Could you send me (privately)
one such message, please? Maybe I just misunderstood something. Ideally
reference this thread in the subject, otherwise I would overlook your
message in my spam folder.
        Thanks and bye,
        Milan

        Hi,
let's continue here. From the two messages you sent me I'd say that
there's an issue with your theme. The message from work, where the
smiley is shown properly, has attached face-smile.png file, while the
message from home has attached face-smile.svg. The message I sent you
from my machine has attached face-smile.png and face-smile-big.png.

I do not know why your home machine theme decided to pick the SVG
version of the icon instead of the PNG version, might be some setting
or whatever, I'm really out of idea. There had been done some unrelated
changes for SVG-based icon themes for 3.22.4+ within [1], but they are
unrelated in a sense that those changes just make sure that the
evolution itself will not draw the icons too large in the WebKit's web
view.

My /usr/share/icons/ has a face-smile.svg provided by a 'breeze' icon
theme, but it doesn't look like the one you sent me, thus you might
have a different icon theme installed and selected. It would be
interesting to find that face-smile.svg and compare its look with
face-smile-big.svg, whether they differ or not.
        Bye,
        Milan

Thx! :)

You pointed me in the right direction. Did a search for face-smile.svg under /usr/share/icons and at home I had installed a theme called elementary that was not installed on my work computer. For some reasons, Evolution seems to be using this theme, but I am not able to find anywhere to choose a theme in Evolution, am I just blind or?

        Hi,
it's a system wide setting, not an Evolution setting. Where the option
is depends on your desktop environment, being it GNOME Shell it's in
gnome-tweak-tool -> Appearance tab -> Icons option. Other desktop
environments have it elsewhere.

Yes, but I had not chosen that theme anywhere, I thought.. But I see I
had chosen that theme in .gtkrc-2.0
Problem solved... :)
