Evolution Crash

Gnome Evolution - General mailing list
Evolution 3.38.3 (flatpak git7758dc3)
Flatpak 1.9.2
DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=19.3
DISTRIB_CODENAME=tricia
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia"
Linux 5.4.0-54-generic #60~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP

Going through one of my mail boxes ( sorry, was only paying half attention )
deleting emails that had been read through web interfaces ( Evolution/Flatpak
crashed and wouldn't restart due to hung, unkillable Flatpak processes).

This is the message that appears in the console terminal:

   GLib-Net:ERROR:../tls/base/gtlsconnection-
   base.c:1394:g_tls_connection_base_handshake_thread_verify_certificate:
   assertion failed: (priv->handshake_context)
   Bail out! GLib-Net:ERROR:../tls/base/gtlsconnection-
   base.c:1394:g_tls_connection_base_handshake_thread_verify_certificate:
   assertion failed: (priv->handshake_context)

To me this looks like a simple handshake failure, but not a reason for Evolution
to completely crash.  Am I missing something ?

        Hi,
that sounds odd. The `kill -9 $PID` should kill the process always.

It's from glib-networking, not from the Evolution code, and the
developers there decided the misbehavior is that important that it
deserves an abort of the application. It makes sense, when the internal
structures are "out of sync".

This is the related downstream report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1719987
It also references other reports, including the upstream report:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib-networking/issues/97

        Bye,
        Milan
